Questions, answered
Is OmahaFoodie free to use for foodies?
Yes. The apps on iOS, Android and app.omahafoodie.com are always free for diners. No ads in the feed, no paywall on reviews.
How is this different from Yelp or Google Maps?
OmahaFoodie is a social network built around real reviews, not generic star ratings. You follow foodies whose taste you trust, earn Kernels for participating, and — when Hotplate launches — catch limited-time deals that no general directory surfaces.
Do I need to be in Omaha?
We're Omaha-first. Restaurants, trucks, neighborhoods, and Hotplates are all built around Omaha. The app works anywhere, but this is where the party is.
What are Kernels and why should I care?
Every review, check-in, and helpful comment earns Kernels. As your Kernels grow, your tier on the Leaderboard climbs from Sampler to Tastemaker — and your reviews get more weight in Discover.
How do Hotplate deals work?
Hotplate deal cards are coming soon. When they launch, restaurants will drop limited-time offers (flat, percentage, or BOGO) with a countdown — you'll signal interest in-app, then walk in and redeem. Until then, use the feed, map, reviews, and Kernels.
